Today, in New York City, The Pakistani Parade occurred.  As I was photographing,  Miss Pakistan 2013, I was approached by both Ms. Pakistan and some PR Flack who started to demand my email,  copies of the pictures I had taken, and then threatened me with arrest.

A public figure, at a public event, has absolutely no right to make this kind of demand.  I approached a nearby police officer, explained what was happening, and asked him if he wanted to arrest me.  Instead, as an irate Miss Pakistan and handler descended upon us, he explained that they had no legal standing, and as they came closer to me, in a rather menacing fashion, he then moved them back to the section of the parade where they came from.
Miss Pakistan and friend also informed me that they thought I was probably a pervert who was going to do something awful with the pictures, and told me that I would "never get a woman".

I've been married for almost 20 years to a beautiful woman.

I contend that, if you are going to live, work, play, march in parades, and take part in public events, in public, it behooves one to learn the laws that apply.  First and foremost we have constitution, which while under attack, still guarantees freedom of the press and freedom of speech.  Yes, if I am in your house, you can tell me to stop taking pictures; if you are in a private area, you may tell me to stop.

But - again - if you are a public figure, in public, you have no such right.  You have no say as to whether or not the photographer sells the image, publishes it in print or on the web.  If, and only if the caption is libelous do you have anything to say about it.  Or if it is used for advertising purposes.  All editorial use is allowed.

I am still not sure whether or not I will upload Miss Pakistan 2013 to flickr, my websites, or anywhere else, simply because I do not wish to be harassed, or involved in litigation driven by ignorance.

If anyone out there is reading this, which I doubt, please give me some feedback!
